Homeland Insecurity

The incredible aftermath of the hurricane in New Orleans and the pathetic response of the U.S. government to it underscores just how vulnerable we are to another major terrorist attack. I have a very bad feeling about all of this...

you'd think 4 years after 9/11, and all this suposed preparation with homeland security, we'd be ready for something like this ... it really just boils down to the conservative manner of functioning ... conservative means leave things the way they are, and obviously round up all the money for yourself as possible ... caring about people and helping them is not part of their fundamental agenda, so they are not about to be ready for this ... the louisiana and mississippi national guardspersons are all in iraq ... the majority of our military resources are in iraq ... all of the governments focus is on iraq ... not too tough to figure this one out ...

George Bush has admitted there were faults in the federal government's response.

So how much blame have the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans been willing to accept? And how many liberals will place at least equal blame on them? They failed to put their emergency plans into action. They failed to properly use the money designated for levee repair and upkeep. They failed to use the buses and other modes of transportation available. They failed to declare martial law and request federal help in a timely manner. They failed to have a plan to evacuate the Superdome when appropriate, and to maintain some semblance of order.

At least the Mayor and Governor were working at the time, and not off on vacation ... and running off to fundraisers, and playing the guitar, during the time people were getting battered by a category 4 ... but at least Bush was good enough to come down to a disaster area primarily effecting blacks accompanied by Trent Lott..,

I do have a question, what was the purpose in President Bush declaring a state of Emergency before the Hurricane struck if not to expedite the response?

I believe that was meant to be part of the process to get federal funding to the coming victims ... I think he was in a catagory 3 state of mind, after all the incidences in Florida last year. But when it's a 4 or 5, obviously it's quite a different story...

Barbara Bush just commented that the people in the Astrodome are underpriveleged anyway, so they are used to this, and "W" said he's going to appoint a "Tzar" to head the recovery operation ... this is the mentality that's running the county ... can we put 2+2 together here?????

Last night on the John Stuart show, Brian Williams, NBC Nightly News anchor, mentioned that he was threatened by US military personnel at gunpoint in New Orleans ... now what kind of threat does the news play to the relief effort? ... what are they, afraid the truth might get reported???? how threatening is the Nightly News anchor from NBC????????? are we living in NAZI Germany here???????? There's something seriously wrong with this picture ... at least someone told Dick Cheney yesterday to go fuck himself ...
