Coalition Attacks Libya

Eight years to the day we launched the war against Saddam Hussein in Iraq, the United States, Britain, and France are united in launching missiles against Libya's air defenses in order to establish a no-fly zone. Hopefully this will shut Moammar Gaddafi up, and allow the rebellion to flourish. I pray for the people of Libya. Gaddafi needs to go.

President Obama

It's official. Our new President is Barack Hussein Obama. I am proud of our country for electing a Black President. We have come so far as a nation. Just 150 years ago, we still had slavery, and were about to enter a terrible war because of it. Just 100 years ago, racism was rampant with Birth of a Nation, the KKK, minstrel shows, lynchings, etc. 50 years ago, segregation was still in full effect in much of the country, especially the South. Whites and "coloreds" were kept apart by Jim Crow laws. 45 years ago, the Civil Rights movement put an end to that. Then, in April 1968, Martin Luther King, who was at the forefront of civil rights, was gunned down in Memphis. Just over 40 years later, we elect, by an electoral landslide, the United States' first African-American President. How far we've come, so fast. I voted for John McCain. Not because he was White. Because I thought he was the best choice for the job. However, now that Obama is President-elect, I fully support him. He will be our President come January 20, 2009. I call on all Americans to stand behind our new President. He has tough times ahead of him. I don't agree with many of his policies, but am still hopeful that he can rise to greatness. Maybe it is time for a real change. Now we get our chance. Let's show the world what America can accomplish when we all work together.

Bailout Fallout

It now appears that the $700 billion financial bill that was shoved down our collective throats by Congress, against the will of three-quarters of Americans, is not going to necessarily be used for what the Bush Administration told us it would be used for; i.e. buying devalued securities from weak banks to help get credit flowing. Now, according to recent reports from the Associated Press, some of the money might be used to buy other banks, give raises and bonuses, and other fiscal foolishness. Now, insurance companies and maybe automakers want in on the gravy train. Jesus Christ. How much of this are we going to stand for? Are you sick of this bullshit yet? Are you?

Hurricane Ike caused quite a bit of havoc in the Houston area and beyond. Why in hell are people so stupid and stubborn when authorities tell them to evacuate and then they just ride it out? Do they have a death wish? Afterward the idiots expect the government to rescue them even though they were warned no help would be coming. And we bail them out anyway. I think next time we should let them suffer and teach them a lesson. But we won't. Not ever. Not after Katrina...

Hurricane Gustav is turning out to be nothing like Katrina exactly three years ago. The levees are holding so far and, God willing, the Democrats won't get their wish that New Orleans be destroyed for political gain. In The Doghouse

Reality TV star Duane "Dog" Chapman, who chases down bail jumping criminals as "Dog The Bounty Hunter", is in some trouble of his own. Chapman, who is already fighting extradition to Mexico for the illegal (in Mexico) capture of a rapist in 2003, now faces the public embarrassment of an audio tape surfacing with him yelling about his son dating a black woman. The "N-word" is used six times. Chapman says the exchange between him and his son was "taken out of context". I heard an excerpt of the tape on Howard Stern, and personally, I think the Big Bad Dog is in Deep Dog Shit.

Brave New Times

Phoenix and national media are buzzing about the Grand Jury indictment, arrest and subsequent dropping of charges against two Phoenix New Times newspaper owners for printing the address of Maricopa County Sheriff and publicity hound Joe Arpaio on their web site.. What has been overlooked is that Arpaio's home address is easily found on public record websites. Why haven't these been targeted? The whole matter is an embarrassment for Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas. Maybe these two should lie really low for awhile... First Amendment issues aside, this was a colossal blunder on their part. I guess Arpaio and Thomas don't believe in freedom of speech, unless it's for them to spew out their outrageous accusations against media coverage they don't agree with.
